Peels and the sun: protecting your results

Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, and be especially consistent after a peel. Peels exfoliate the skin, and AHA, retinoid and brightening products can make it more sensitive to the sun. Tell Leica about any recent sun exposure on your intake form so she can adjust your treatment.
Why peeled skin needs more protection
A chemical peel lifts away surface skin cells so fresher skin can show through. That fresh skin is more vulnerable, which is why SPF is part of the aftercare for every Simply Facials treatment.
The same goes for at-home acids, retinoids and brightening products. They can make skin more sensitive to the sun, so if you use them, sunscreen is not optional.
Sunscreen, every morning
Make a broad-spectrum SPF the last step of your morning routine, after moisturizer. Simply Facials doesn't sell a sunscreen in the shop, so choose one you like enough to wear every day.
Serums don't replace it. The directions for Rejuvi 'x'-Cell Vitamin C Complex, for example, say to follow it with moisturizer and sun protection. On long days outside, reapply, and use a hat and shade too.
Timing a peel around sun and events
After a Simply Gentle Peel, skin may feel slightly dry or sensitive for a few days. Plan your peel for a stretch when you can keep things low-key, rather than right before a beach trip, a long day outdoors or a big event.
If you have something coming up, mention it on your intake form. Leica can help you choose the right timing and the right treatment. A facial without a peel is always an option when the timing is tight.
Tell Leica about recent sun
The intake form asks about recent sun exposure, procedures and skin reactions for a reason. If you have a sunburn or have spent a lot of time in the sun lately, note it, and Leica will adjust your treatment.
Rejuvi 'h' Skin Healing Gel is described as a soothing balm for sun or wind burn. For a severe or blistering burn, check with your doctor.
Protecting what you've worked for
If you are working on dark spots or uneven tone, daily sunscreen matters most. Without it, spots tend to come back, even after peels and a good routine.
The dark spots and uneven tone routine on the skincare page is built around this idea: brightening products in the morning and evening, and sunscreen every single morning. Think of SPF as the step that lets everything else do its work.
